HiveMind is a novel tool, developed and evaluated in collaboration with academia, for automated testing. The tool utilises visual, scriptless, test modelling that reduces the cognitive load and the amount of required technical knowledge and skills to create automated test cases. The tool achieves this through a combination of three core parts:
- Graphical User Interface (GUI) Augmentation - HiveMind augments all test scenarios and test data on top of the application's GUI - No need for scripts or even visual models - where everything is available to the user on the level of abstraction where the user will interact with the application.
- System under test user Behavioural Modelling - HiveMind records all user interactions to create advanced behavioural models of the application's intended behaviour. This makes manual, or automated, playback of test cases as easy and simple as using the application.
- Machine-learning based Test Data Analysis - HiveMind uses state-of-the-art data crawling and data analysis algorithms to advance your testing by learning for recorded user data to provide the tester with new, valid, suggestions for new test steps or test data.
Combined, these features provide the tool with unprecedented capabilities for the tester, both for exploratory and regression testing. Whilst the augmented GUI opens up for new, non-technical, users to contribute to testing, the advanced back-end algorithms and data structures give experienced testers feedback of how to make their expert tests even better!
