Synucure Therapeutics inc. is a Canadian biotechnology company conducting research in brain degenerative disorders. Synucure was founded in 2021 with the key objective to pursue the promising and robust pre-clinical work of Dr. Francesca Cicchetti on a repurposed drug called Cysteamine which demonstrated, in various animal and cell models, that the drug could prevent and/or reverse a number of features related to Parkinson’s Disease (PD). Her research on the potential benefits of Cysteamine in neurodegenerative disorders was initiated 20 years ago. In addition to the promising role of Cysteamine as a Disease Modifying Therapy (DMT) in Parkinson, Dr. Cicchetti and her colleagues conducted research on patented blood biomarkers, of which the main objective is to provide clinicians with a more precise diagnostic and stratification tool for the disease using a simple blood test.
