The state of sex ed would be laughable if it weren’t so seriously dangerous and alarming. In the US, for example, only *17 states* require medically accurate sex ed. Can you imagine if we taught math and arbitrarily decided what students need to know and what equations we could just, sort of, make up? What if we taught drivers ed and left out some of the laws or told learners they could skip stop signs if they just don’t believe in them? I mean, can you imagine? 🤯 Well, that’s exactly how we teach (or don’t teach) our youth about their bodies and how to navigate relationships and mental health. When we don’t learn this critical information in school or at home growing up, we’re put at risk not only for contracting infections or experiencing unwanted pregnancy, but also for undiagnosed pelvic floor conditions, untreated mental health concerns, unsupported victims of sexual or emotional abuse, and unfortunately the list of uniformed ramifications goes on and on.
