Saed Karzoun, the founder of Taghyeer, was an extremely shy boy who underperformed at school and was often mocked for that. He remembers being called stupid and a dummy. When he was 10, his father decided to send him to the music conservatory so that Saed could play oud in his band, on the assumption that sooner or later he would fail his studies. Surprisingly, enrolling there transformed his life. Learning to read music notes and practicing melodies sharpened his focus, and he met people who believed in him. Surrounded by culture and the beauty of music, he excelled at the conservatory and began to perform better at school, eventually achieving 96%. Combined with the experience of working at the neighbour's corner shop as a teenager, this led him to become a confident, energetic and determined young man who knew the reality of Palestinian youth well and believed in the power of positive attitude as a solution for building a Palestinian nation for the future. He graduated with a media and journalism degree from Birzeit University in 2007 with a strong desire to create a platform for implementing his vision. He believed in positive thinking, energy and can-do attitude, especially needed in Palestine. Saed created the concept of Taghyeer to connect 3 projects he wrote while on a cultural management programme in Germany in 2012, as well as other ideas and interdisciplinary initiatives. Gradually, he built a strong team of tech developers, events organisers and media professionals dedicated to facilitating change in the complex Palestinian context. Youth and wider public's participation is at the heart of Taghyeer, as it looks at the issues on the ground before channelling them to responsible bodies helping to create solutions.
