About Tai Impact
Founded in 2012, Tai has earned recognition for producing educational, culturally relevant content that addresses critical social challenges such as education, gender-based violence, environmental degradation, teenage pregnancy, child marriage, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and menstrual hygiene. In Sub-Saharan Africa, millions of girls are denied access to education due to harmful practices like child marriage and FGM. Furthermore, individuals with disabilities face stigma, limited resources, and the growing digital divide, which hinders access to educational and social opportunities. Tai employs Social Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) strategies to actively engage communities in tackling these issues. Through close collaboration with schools, local leaders, and other community influencers, Tai encourages local ownership of solutions, ensuring that interventions are both sustainable and culturally resonant. Tai also develops digital tools for educators and parents, facilitating ongoing, meaningful conversations about social challenges both at home and in the wider community. At the core of Tai's mission is empowering young people by using Human-Centered Design (HCD) and SBCC to craft solutions that foster long-term social transformation. Tai combines data-driven insights with storytelling and digital technology to create compelling narratives that challenge harmful social norms, inspire positive behavior change, and build more inclusive, resilient communities. To date, Tai has reached over 67,000 students in more than 100 schools across Tanzania and Kenya, and its multimedia educational content has touched an estimated 17 million people across East Africa through traditional and digital platforms. A notable partnership with UNICEF has led to the localization of the Oky-App, the first-period tracker that helps girls monitor their menstrual cycles and access sexual and reproductive health content for free. Additionally, Tai's digital tools provide essential
