Barry started his company in a small one-man showroom in Town of Mount Royal, QC but his story really began at his family’s deli, United Delicatessen on St-Lawrence Boulevard, in Montreal. At just 9 years old, he was on the street delivering food to the clothing factories around the bustling neighborhood. His father taught him that respect, honesty and customer service was king, and he quickly learned how to treat a paying customer. He never forgot how significant that advice was, and he built his business based on those principles.
With handshakes and integrity, Barry developed strong relationships with various suppliers from all over the world who helped contribute to his company’s success. By offering high quality merchandise within a broad range of budgets, he created a diverse product line that was accessible, exciting and unique.
As the business grew, his wife and children came aboard. With an architectural background, it was only fitting that his son Jordan further developed their commercial presence and has since collaborated with some of the largest companies on projects throughout the region. Barry’s wife, Shirley and their daughter, Pamela established an exclusive handpicked area rug division – fast forward to today – Tapis Normandy carries some of the most extraordinary rugs in the business.
With strong determination, they’ve stayed relevant in a world of big-box stores by offering a diverse product line and by providing a personal, tailored customer experience.
