About Transatlantic Privacy Perceptions (TAPP)

TAPP is an interdisciplinary research project conducted by the University of Maryland (USA) and University of Munich (Germany). The project aims to serve as an informative tool providing a comprehensive overview on major actors in privacy debates, the topics they talk about, and what they are thinking about these topics. We follow and analyze developments in privacy actors’ attitudes, expectations, and concerns around current and emerging issues in digital privacy over time through a cross-national, cross-sectoral survey of influential voices and experts in privacy, generating quantitative signals on privacy perceptions. Our goal is to help companies and policymakers internationally learn more about current and future digital privacy concerns and how they can best be addressed, either by designing technology to account for concerns or by mandating safeguards in legislation. Principal Investigators: Frauke Kreuter (University of Maryland and University of Munich) Katie Shilton (University of Maryland) Stanley Presser (University of Maryland) Brian Kim (University of Maryland) Christoph Kern (University of Munich) Contact: info@privacyperceptions.org
