Tarpaulife Project

Tarpaulife Project company information, Employees & Contact Information

TARPAULIFE aims to demonstrate the possibility of manufacturing large polyolefin-coated fabrics that can compete in terms of cost with PVC-coated fabrics for large-scale market applications. The main application selected is waterbags, which represent an innovative way of transporting large amounts of freshwater over the sea. Other applications selected to replicate the proposed solution are eco-friendly truck tarps and glacier tarpaulins. The main results of the project will be a production facility of three-metre-wide polyolefin-coated fabrics with a production capacity of 250,000 m2/year one year after termination of the project, and demonstration at two locations of two 2,500 m3 waterbags made with the new material: in the North Sea and in the Mediterranean. Three years after project end, production is anticipated of 100+ waterbags and 2+ million m3 of water stored at three freshwater storage sites. The proposed solution would help avoid the incineration of 2,000+ tonnes of PVC and prevent 13+ tonnes of CO2 from being released into the environment.
