The Taskforce on Nature Markets has been established to shape a new generation of nature markets that deliver nature-positive and equitable outcomes. Why now: Recent developments point to nature becoming more visible and valued across ‘nature markets’ that generate nature-specific revenue streams. Left unchecked, this surge in the monetisation of nature may lead to its further depletion and damage, and yet another round of inequitable outcomes. At this critical phase of development, we have an opportunity to shape purposeful nature markets that recognise the value of nature and its stewards. What: Nature, not economy, must be placed at the heart of nature markets. Our ‘Call to Action’ is for a practical strategy to shape a principles-based approach to the design and governance of nature markets. The Taskforce on Nature Markets is an initiative hosted by NatureFinance and is supported by the MAVA foundation.
