"Born in a Pandemic," Taycte is a collaboration between two friends, one from Italy and one from America. The Italian restaurant industry was hit hard by the pandemic, resulting in a surplus of some of the finest foods available. In America, people are cooking at home more than ever, and now have the opportunity to cook with the best Italian ingredients.
Our first offering is an olive oil from Tuscany, sourced directly from a small co-op of producers, and cold-pressed within 24 hours of harvesting. In normal times, their entire supply is consumed by high-end, local restaurants there in the region, so they never had a reason to export. Enter the Coronavirus, and the shutdown of the Italian economy, and all of a sudden there's a surplus.
We've learned a ton about customs brokers, oceanic freight, and the direct-to-consumer world in general. We're in the home stretch, and the first batch of olive oil should be through customs and ready to ship by August 12th, 2020.
