Team OC Mentors

Team OC, In collaboration with Thrive Orange County, has created a new organization called Team OC: Orange County Youth Mentoring whose main goal is to tackle issues related to single parent households, high rates of teen pregnancy, abuse, neglect, incarcerated parents, substance abuse by one or both parents and the list goes on and on. The program will target youth aged 7-10 years old with an Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) score of 4 or higher. According to the CDC, ACEs are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. ACEs can include violence, abuse, neglect, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Mentoring services have many positive outcomes for youth. Covid has created many challenges which has increased the need for mentoring in our community. Youth that are matched with a mentor build stronger relationships with parents, teachers, and peers. Youth with mentors have increased likelihood of going to college, better attitudes toward school, increased social and emotional development, and improved self-esteem.
