Team Proactive

Following a catastrophic cyclone in 1991 with the help of UNDP (United Nations Development Program), Bangladesh government established Disaster Management Bureau (DMB) in 1993 which later on became the institutional foundation of an integrated approach to disaster risk reduction, response and recovery. At a time, the country realized the importance of Disaster Preparedness and felt that Comprehensive Disaster Management is more important than the reactive response to disaster. From that understanding Standing Order on Disaster (SOD) was formulated in 1997 by the then government under the guidance of the bureau. Consequently, UNDP started two phase based program in order to achieve the proper results of being proactive approaches namely i) Comprehensive Disaster Management Program Phase I (2004-2009) and ii) Comprehensive Disaster Management Program Phase II (2010-2014) having a set of goal “to achieve a paradigm shift in disaster management from conventional response and relief to a more comprehensive risk reduction culture, and to promote food security as an important factor in ensuring the resilience of communities to hazards”. By taking the initiatives of Comprehensive Disaster Management Program, Bangladesh has taken the first step for being proactive in terms of setting its goal towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals. Following that line of work, "Team Proactive" is determined to make people interested about the proactive measures in SDG and Climate Change. Our goal is to change people’s perception. So that, people can emphasize on proactive approach rather than reactive approach. However, we dream for a sustainable earth. So this might be a tiny step from us towards the bigger dream.
