Team Walker, Inc.

Team Walker is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that seeks to nourish the mind, body and soul of under-served children in Jersey City, New Jersey. Founded in 1996 by former Seton Hall University basketball star Jerry Walker and his brother, Jasper Walker, Team Walker provides academic and recreation programs to the Jersey City youth. The Walker brothers have dedicated their lives to providing the Jersey City kids with the same after school programs they credit for their success in life. Team Walker creates programs that provide safe and constructive alternatives to the negative influences that plague inner-city youth. Through a structured academic and recreational environment, the children learn the importance of education, responsibility, persistence, teamwork and unity. With access to positive role models, hard-won accomplishments in combination with a heightened awareness of their capabilities, the children have the opportunity to improve their quality of life significantly. The core of Team Walker's mission is its After School and Summer Programs, designed to promote critical and creative thinking skills and provide access to fields of education that are shaping our society, including STEAM programs. Students can explore and learn through exciting enrichment programs and field trips. Team Walker offers students homework help, tutoring and recreation as part of its approach to building the mind, body and soul. Participants have access to a wide variety of educational and supportive programs, including academic enrichment and remediation, culture and arts, positive youth development and athletics. We serve a total of almost 300 students annually in grades K through 10. Team Walker also offers various community programs such as weatherization, free farmers markets and turkey and toy drives. CEO Jerry Walker states, "Team Walker is a symbol of my long-term commitment to improving the neighborhood's quality of life and serving as an anchor of stability."
