Office of Denmark's Tech Ambassador

The Office of Denmark’s Tech Ambassador works for the responsible development of technology globally. We engage in diplomatic dialogue with the global tech industry, fostering a technological development that aligns with Denmark’s values. Through cooperation with governments, international organizations and civil society, we work to advance policies and practices that support a positive technological future. In 2017, Denmark became the first country to appoint a Tech Ambassador with a mandate to represent the Danish government on matters of technology globally. Both in direct relations with the industry, as well as in relevant bilateral and international conversations about tech and its increasing influence and relevance. The establishment of the Danish technology diplomacy – Techplomacy for short – represented elevating technology to a cross-cutting foreign and security policy issue. Since then, the importance of technology in all aspects of our lives and society has grown near exponentially. New and critical technologies such as AI, biotech and quantum present great opportunities, but also significant challenges that must be addressed sooner rather than later. Since 2020, Anne Marie Engtoft Meldgaard has been spearheading this effort as Tech Ambassador. With offices in Silicon Valley and Copenhagen – and a global network of embassies - we work across the globe, in the U.S. and within the EU, to be engaged where negotiations are held, impacts are felt, and decisions are made. In a world full of unpredictability, crises and confrontations, we believe that technology can and must be part of the solution.
