TechIPI provides specialized legal advice on intellectual property and technology transfer to commercialisation, IP due diligence, consulting, mentoring and training in innovation/invention from idea to market. It focuses on various pillars, IP strategy, inventor technology evaluation (Tech), intellectual property and specifically patent advice from the provisional stage, through examination to granting (IP) and innovation spiraling including commercialisation strategy and technology transfer contracts (I). These services are offered to tech start-ups, companies, universities, business incubators, manufacturers, management schools and government departments. This includes liaison (triple and quad helix) and an essential supporting role with the link to patent attorneys through the IP transaction process and consulting and mentoring contracts. Specialized active training courses are offered: inventor IP, IP scouting, IP management, understanding patent process, specifications and patent claims including novelty and obviousness defenses, technology innovation process, radical innovation and customized courses. Consulting and mentoring in the engineering IP and innovation is a specialized skill offered by TechIPI. The company is headed by Professor Gary Atkinson-Hope, who holds a PhD in electrical engineering, is a qualified lawyer with specialisation in intellectual property, and is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP), one of the few in South Africa. Professor Atkinson-Hope also serves as an advisor on the Minister of Science and Technology's National Intellectual Property Management Office Advisory Board (NIPMO).
