Technical Assistance Unit (TAU)

The Technical Assistance Unit (TAU) - Support to the Criminal Justice Reform in Ethiopia Programme Funded by the European Union and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) International Services led consortium with DCAF - Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance and has been contracted for the period of four years, from 15 October to 14 October 2025. The overall objective of the TAU is ‘increased rule of law, respect for human rights and access to justice for all’. The purpose of the TAU is to support the Government of Ethiopia in its efforts to reform the criminal justice system in Ethiopia through the provision of ongoing technical assistance, advice and support to key institutions involved in the reforms and to ensure increased access to justice for all. Those institutions are the Ministry of Justice, The Federal Supreme Court, The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission and the Police at both Federal and Regional levels. The TAU services have three main outputs: • Strengthened strategic planning and coordination process of the beneficiary institutions in the implementation of the criminal justice policy reform. • Improved managerial and operational capacities of the key federal and regional institutions to improve their procedures and workflow processes. • Developed project management, coordination and oversight of the project. The Programme implementation is by way of grants and services of a Technical Assistance Unit (TAU) which provides technical support.
