SensorSurf was founded in early 2023 by Alec Bell to help robotics companies improve their AI models through high-quality real-world data collection. Our platform enabled robotics teams to capture critical sensor data in dynamic environments, enhancing model accuracy and performance.
One key application involved an agricultural robotics company using SensorSurf to automatically capture imagery whenever their robot detected a farm worker. This data helped retrain their AI models, making them better at avoiding workers in the field.
SensorSurf was part of Y Combinator’s W23 batch and quickly landed three customers. However, gaining broader traction in the robotics industry proved challenging. After exploring multiple avenues, we made the difficult decision to wind down the company at the end of 2024 as Alec shifted focus toward building something more scalable.
