Dr. Tal Lavian is a telecommunications expert specializing in data communications, computer networks, and internet protocols (TCP/IP). With over 35 years of experience as a scientist, educator, and technologist, Dr. Lavian offers expert consulting services in telecommunications, network communications, computer communications, and internet protocols. His expertise includes computer networks, data communications, LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, UDP, VPN, voice over IP (VoIP), streaming media, chat, SMS, network security, mobile wireless, Ethernet, routing, switching, the internet, web technologies, and communication standards.
Dr. Lavian has spent 20 years researching, studying, and lecturing at UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering. His research focuses on telecommunications systems, data networks, network services, software, network protocols, and communications frameworks. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, specializing in network communications.
While at UC Berkeley, Dr. Lavian conducted research projects in data centers (RAD Labs), network communication service architecture (SAHARA), and wireless systems (ICEBERG). He also served as an industry fellow and lecturer at the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) and as a scientific liaison between Nortel Research Lab and UC Berkeley. Dr. Lavian was also part of UC Berkeley’s SkyDeck start-ups, where he worked on technology research and implementation.
Dr. Lavian has co-authored over 25 scientific publications, journal articles, and peer-reviewed papers and has presented his work at conferences. He is also the inventor of over 120 issued and filed patents.
