About Terraforming LIFE

Terraforming LIFE is a European collaboration project carried out by First Water, Bændasamtök Íslands, Orkidea, Ölfus Cluster and SMJ. This project has received funding from the European Community’s LIFE program under grant agreement Nr. 101113811. The Terraforming LIFE project aims to strengthen the regional circular economy by using domestically available resources, i.e. fish sludge and manure, to produce biofertiliser and energy. These are secondary resources that would otherwise be landfilled and/or end up as waste water that is pumped into the ocean. Utilising fish sludge and manure as source of renewable energy and biofertilizer will also contribute to mitigation of green house gas (GHG) emissions and reduction of carbon footprint. The project is aimed to design, build, optimise, implement, and validate a new technology to help overcome the challenges related to aquaculture and agricultural systems, climate change and waste reuse. The project is co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or CINEA. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
