Thamani

In 2012, after recognising a major gap between gemstone miners and appropriate ethical and fair markets for their products, Thamani was founded to address these challenges. Thamani seeks to provide gemstone miners (who are mainly located in Taita Taveta) a sustainable link to fair trade markets for their precious stones. Thamani also seeks to address the deficit in information on appropriate mining techniques, sustainable mining, gemstone knowledge and marketing methods that is prevalent in the mining communities. In addition to this Thamani is raising awareness of availability of locally mined gemstones to the East African populace. Thamani is working with local and international investors on gemstone prospecting/mining projects and establishing an ethical fair trade market for the precious stones. These projects are in conjunction with Aliya Mining and Environmental Group (Lualenyi Ranch), Mwatate Small Scale Miners and Dealers Association and other smaller mining groups and individuals in Kenya.
