The 48 Group was officially established in 1954 following the historic Icebreaker Mission, the first Western trade delegation to the newly formed People's Republic of China. This groundbreaking mission, which took place in July 1953, successfully signed several key agreements, setting the stage for decades of fruitful collaboration.
The Icebreakers, as they came to be known, became legendary. The visionary Jack Perry was the driving force behind this initiative, inspiring continuous efforts in fostering East-West trade relations.
Nearly 70 years later, under the leadership of Jack Perry’s son, Stephen Perry, who has served as Chairman for the past 26 years, The 48 Group continues to honor its rich legacy while looking to the future. Now, a third generation, Stephen's son, Jack Perry, carries forward this mission with a fresh perspective.
