For those wanting or needing more support, The ADHD Teacher service will offer both consultation and teacher training. For parents and young people there will be access to coaching, mentoring, information and support making the long wait bearable and the future bright. The NHS referral system is buckling under the strain of those seeking an ADHD diagnosis and while some go private, others are left to wait for up to eight years, but what does this mean for those desperate and stuck in an endless queue? At the same time, the mainstream education system is struggling to adapt. The number of children being home schooled has risen by 10,000 in just one year. Suspension rates are also on the rise and schools run the risk of disability discrimination for failing to adapt and support adequately. My name is Louise Belshaw and I was a secondary school teacher for over 25 years before I left to study for a Master’s in Psychology. I am a mum of two children with ADHD and an ADHD life coach. All of my expertise and experiences have taught me that knowledge is power and understanding is key. Now it’s just a case of sharing that power.
