The Aphasia Network

The Aphasia Network company information, Employees & Contact Information

The Aphasia Network promotes aphasia awareness and provides communication support and resources to individuals and their families or support teams to assist in reconnecting and rebuilding their lives after diagnosis. Aphasia is the loss of the ability to communicate (speak) with the people you love. It is caused by stroke or brain injury and is isolating and devastating to families. The Aphasia Network's mission is to enhance quality of life, provide daily life survival resources, and promote community and support to persons with aphasia and their families. Aphasia Camp Northwest: Camp brings individuals with aphasia and their families together for an annual retreat designed to reduce the social isolation that often accompanies aphasia. This program is a 3-day immersion where persons with aphasia learn new communication skills and explore recreational activities, and their care partners gain coping strategies, support, and respite. Since assuming oversight for camp in 2012, the Aphasia Network has grown the number of participants and outreach to the medical community, providing valuable life connections for the aphasia community. Aphasia Couples Retreat: This weekend retreat gives persons with aphasia and their partner an opportunity to reconnect and strengthen their bond as a couple in a fun, social setting. Together with a speech and occupational therapy student team, and in professionally-led groups, couples will discuss and form individualized coping methods for the challenges of married life with aphasia side-by-side with other couples facing similar challenges Spring Aphasia Workshop: This annual workshop helps persons with aphasia and their care partners develop new communication and daily living strategies. This is a joint program with Pacific University Schools of Communication Sciences and Disorders (Speech) and of Occupational Therapy (OT). Speech and OT students form 1-to-1 strategy teams with attendees, providing valuable aphasia training for our next generation of medical providers, too. Community Support Groups: The Aphasia Network supports various communities of 'survivors' throughout the Portland area. These community-lead groups provide year-round support. Research: The Network provides community connections for aphasia research.
