We specialise in the supply of natural and added value shellfish products to UK retailers, wholesalers and foodservice - it’s not only about prawns, although they’re a huge part of what we do. Our ambition is to source the best shellfish from around the world for people in the UK to enjoy.
The Big Prawn vision has always been to think BIG, and this was the inspiration for our name. Driving sustainable sourcing practices in our industry was also a major ambition, and that’s still as true today as it was back in 1995 when our story began; after more than 25 years in business we think we’re pretty expert on all things shellfish.
We pride ourselves on having created a wonderful network of ethical, responsible and sustainability driven suppliers as part of our global sourcing strategy. This means our operations are agile and never reliant on just one country or species. We’ve built our business by supporting and investing in many communities all over the world: the shellfish, the people who fish for us, the environment, and our commitment to communities is what drives us as we continue to grow.
We’re based in beautiful North Norfolk at a site that has expanded to meet our growth. Our recent investment in site facilities means we now have an annual pack capacity of 50 million units, 6 production lines across chilled and frozen operations, and a brand new state-of-the-art prawn cooking facility. And whilst we’ve tripled our operational footprint in the last 5 years, we’ve also halved our energy use!
Our people are a vital part of our success. Everyone who works here is a valued member of our community and we’ll always shout about them, because their hard work is what makes us the business we are.
