The Bisexual Research Group

Bisexuals+ make up the largest group within the LGBTQ community, more than gay and lesbian people combined, and younger generations like millennials and Gen Z are increasingly identifying with more fluid sexual identities like those that fall under the bisexual+ umbrella. Despite the size and growth of the community, bisexuals+ remain overwhelmingly socially and discursively invisible and very little is known about bi+ unique experiences. Given the pervasiveness of biphobia, bi+ erasure, and bi+ invisibility, it is not surprising that research has found that bisexuals are less likely to be out as compared to lesbian and gay people, some suggesting that the majority of the community is still in the closet . What little research does exist primarily focuses on white women, presenting a gap when it comes to understanding the intersectionality between bisexuality+ and other differences like gender, race, ethnicity, class, disability, and age. We seek to raise awareness about bi+ identities, intersectionalities, and experiences and offer insight into how to organizations can create spaces that foster greater inclusion of bi+ people. Our various events aim to explore, analyze, and challenge the ways in which bisexuality+ shapes people’s lives and strive to advance new forms of interdisciplinary knowledge. The Bisexual Research Group is an inclusive and supportive space for bi+ researchers and one. We stand against all forms of discrimination, including biphobia, transphobia, homophobia, racism, sexism, classism, ableism, and ageism, and welcome all those interested in learning more about the bi+ community.
