The Calathea Project

The Calathea Project is a student-led and student-founded nonprofit based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, dedicated to challenging societal taboos and fostering meaningful change. Our mission is to break taboos by sparking conversations about pressing issues often left unspoken—like autism awareness, menstrual health, and colorism—while driving impactful action remotely and occasionally through in-person projects as well. Born during the pandemic in 2021, Calathea symbolizes hope and new beginnings, much like the resilient houseplant it’s named after. Through education, advocacy, and innovative projects, we aim to create a more inclusive, understanding society—one conversation at a time.
