The Clive Smith Foundation

The Clive Smith Foundation is the first charity in the housing sector dedicated to tackling mental health issues with an aim to eradicate suicide. Clive Smith was a colleague and dear friend. He took his own life on 5th April 2021. He left behind a devastated young family and friends. Nobody knew he was considering ending his life. We felt the importance of not standing by and allowing this to happen to another person and their family and friends, whilst there are actions we can take to alleviate the issues that cause this suffering. Our Vision: a. Promote the preservation of good mental health for the benefit of the public b. Support the needs of people with mental health problems Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 50. In 2021 - over 5,000 deaths; 75% were male In the skilled construction & building trades, the number of suicides were more than double any other profession We are focusing in particular on the transformation of the culture of the housing and built environment sector, to be open about mental health and to encourage people to recognise where others are struggling. Our Objectives: *Enable open discussion about suicide, its prevention and its aftermath in the sector *Provide training through accredited bodies on mental health awareness *Provide a leadership course for managers and leaders focused around mental health wellbeing for leaders and teams *Collaborate with other bodies to provide accreditation(s) on mental health with the aim of gaining a recognised standard within the industry *Hold sector leading awards to celebrate good practice in mental health *Assist with ESG assessments *Enable participation in the largest network of housing organisations dedicated to tackling mental health issues Get Involved: *Consider partnership and becoming a Foundation sponsor and supporter of the Clive Smith Foundation *Support and participate in industry fundraisers *Contact Shirley Heapy theclivesmithfoundation@gmail.com
