The Columbus Project

The Columbus Project company information, Employees & Contact Information

Our mission is to ensure that people who are severely at-risk because of lack of opportunity, training, ability or assistance do not disappear. We can help them, and we do. We have created a three-year apprenticeship in the basic building trades: carpentry, electric and plumbing. Our project managers have over 50 years of experience in the building trades and will train our apprentices in cohorts of 3. We only offer these apprenticeships to women who are emerging from prison. These women represent one of the most under-served populations in Ohio, and part of our mission is to provide them with an opportunity to spend three years developing marketable skills. Our hope is that we can provide a program that helps to change the life trajectory of women who may not have any other opportunities. The training takes place in housing that has been abandoned and is in disrepair. We will take the housing and rehabilitate it so that it passes all inspections and can be used as living space. Thus, we recycle old, abandoned housing and turn it into affordable housing. We are in the midst or our initial capital campaign and are seeking to raise $300,000 this year. We have a very active and amazing Board of Directors, and we have broad community support for this project. We hope you'll watch this space (and find us on facebook, twitter and instagram) and follow our progress!
