"The Edinburgh University Science Journals Society (EUSJS) was founded by a group of Biomedical/Biological science students. We set up the society with the aim of helping other young scientists to improve their scientific writing skills. We also welcome medical students with an interest in research. We aim help provide people with the skills they need when writing up their 4th year dissertation project and beyond for those interested in a scientific career. In our sessions, we invite speakers from both the biological and biomedical schools to pass on their expertise in scientific writing. Our sessions so far have included focusing on how to write an effective abstract, introduction and methods section of a research paper and we aim to continue focusing on further aspects of scientific writing. We also hope to provide a platform for developing skills on critiquing scientific literature and so being able to distinguish between ‘fake’ and ‘real’ science. We have set up our own student-run scientific journal - ‘The Edinburgh Scientist’, so not only will you have the opportunity to learn how to write effectively but be able to publish your own research findings, allowing you to present your research to others.
