We collect monetary donations & frequent flyer miles and provide them to people who desperately need them to visit terminally ill loved ones with cancer.
I’m Matt Dimmer, the Founder of The Extra Mile. My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in November 2011. I had just moved to Los Angeles with my wife, and not knowing how long he had left, began scheduling flights back to see him in Michigan. At least once a month I would fly back and spend 3-4 days reminiscing about good times with my dad, and creating some new memories to treasure.
During this extremely stressful span, I spent a lot of time on airplanes, and when I wasn’t focused on the idea of losing him, I thought about people in similar situations who couldn’t afford to do what I was doing. I couldn’t imagine not being able to see him that one last time before he was gone.
A few months after beginning The Extra Mile, my dad passed away, but not before seeing the early sketches of the plans. I’m creating this in his honor, to help others, because that’s what he would do.
