The Good Cake

Little bakery, big dreams! 1 in 2.5 elderly person you meet in Hong Kong live in subsistence. Empty kitchen shelves, a broken refrigerator, sacrificing food to pay one's utilities, you name it. Imagine having to live off less than HKD3600* or less in this very expensive city. Spilt that between rent (say a cage home), utilities, food, travel and medical bills. The lack of support for the elderly community here is reflective in its high suicidal rates** in the age group, where often even seniors who have access to consistent family fall into depression unnoticed - what more those who reside alone in abject poverty, in our youth-centric, technologically-driven society? The Good Cake commits a part of our proceeds to providing rice, food items and other daily necessities to this underprivileged community. We are also an inclusive bakery, offering flexible hours to mommy-professional-pastry-chefs, retirees who just want to be involved, and even the student who is soul- searching. The Good Cake is also and advocate for the elderly living in poverty, inclusivity in the work place, and conscious shopping. Thank you to those who have been so supportive of us!
