The Haitian Project through its support of Louverture Cleary Schools, a national network of tuition-free, Catholic, co-educational secondary boarding schools in Haiti, provides for the education of academically-talented and motivated students from Haitian families who cannot afford the cost of their children’s education in order to maximize their potential and enable them to work toward building a Haiti where justice and peace thrive. Imagine living in a place where... A year's tuition for just one child, in public or private secondary school costs 25-40% of the average person's annual salary. Fewer than 5% of children graduate from high school. Almost 70% of college graduates leave the country. At Louverture Cleary School... Students receive a Haitian Ministry of Education-approved education tuition-free. 98% of graduates pass the Baccalaureat, Haiti's national exam. Over 90% of graduates are gainfully employed or attending university in Haiti. The Haitian Project was founded in the early 1980's by St. Joseph's Parish in Providence, RI, to provide humanitarian aid and relief to the people of Haiti. Louverture Cleary School began as a response to one of the greatest needs of Haiti: education. Once a school with a handful of students and big dreams for the future, Louverture Cleary School has now grown to feed, house, and educate 350 bright and enthusiastic students from the poorest neighborhoods of Haiti.
