The LaunchPort

The LaunchPort™ is a Medical Device Venture Center and ISO-13485 Contract Manufacturing operation in Baltimore, Maryland that allows Medtech start-ups and emerging technology developers the ability to co-locate at an experienced, regulated manufacturing center. As part of that Residency, they are allowed to tap into core services at the site (e.g., financial operating systems, quality system development and management protocols & templates, logistics and purchasing support, regulatory compliance development, clinical trial, and post-market Device History File management), while utilizing their capital resources on developing their critical core competencies under the tutelage of an experienced Medtech operation. The Venture Center operates like a medical device pilot plant, where Residents can develop different elements of their GMP process on a scale that is both capital efficient and can leverage core capabilities at the site. LaunchPort seeks to not only support the success of the management teams themselves, but de-risk the entities for both investors and future partners/acquirers. The facility occupies approximately 25,000 square feet of assembly, engineering, clean room, and office space in the Port Covington economic development zone of Baltimore (https://pc.city/) and serves as a home base for the Residents. Port Covington is approximately equidistant from the Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland Medical Centers. LaunchPort’s current Residents include those in the fields of Cardiology, General Surgery, Hemodialysis, In-Vitro Diagnostics, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Pulmonology, Robotics, and Tissue Engineering. LaunchPort, LLC operates in four business areas – Ventures, Manufacturing, Service & Supply Chain, and Consulting/Programs.
