About The Marine Guild

The Marine Guild was founded in the 1898 to provide financial assistance to anyone who had served in the Marine Engineering or Naval Architectural professions in the Merseyside / Manchester areas or their dependents in the event that they were experiencing serious financial hardship. With the introduction of laws governing charitable organisations, the Guild became a registered charity in 1926. The Guild’s activities include the provision of regular financial assistance to elderly people, assistance with nursing home fees and provision of mobility equipment to those whose afflictions have left them physically impaired. More recently, the Guild has provided charitable support for those in education in marine-related subjects and promotes an annual award for apprentices who are training with local companies connected to the marine industry. The Charity is run entirely by Honorary Officers, hence its only operating expenses are such items as telephones, printing and postage, leaving practically all its income for the provision of benefits. The Guild has been well supported over the years and this support continues, thanks to all those Members and Guests who attend our annual functions.
