About The New Mart
The New Mart, originally known as the Harris Newmark Building, is a cornerstone of Los Angeles history and fashion. Completed in 1926 and designed by renowned architects Curlett & Beelman, the building was named in honor of Harris Newmark—a respected philanthropist and civic leader. In 1980, visionary real estate entrepreneur Ben Eisenberg purchased the building and began transforming it from a manufacturing facility into a fashion-forward wholesale showroom venue. By 1983, he and his wife Joyce Eisenberg renamed it The New Mart, reflecting its fresh identity as a creative and commercial space. The Eisenbergs' vision brought a new kind of energy to the building, focused on showcasing designers, buyers, and the fashion industry at large. Ben Eisenberg’s commitment to community impact extended well beyond real estate. In 1986, he transferred ownership of The New Mart and his other properties to The Ben and Joyce Eisenberg Foundation, a charitable trust benefiting medical research, children, and elderly care. By late 1987, the transition from garment factory to gallery-style showroom building was complete, and in 1988, The New Mart was officially granted landmark status by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department for its elegant architectural facade. Today, The New Mart is currently home to over a hundred wholesale showrooms representing approximately one thousand unique apparel lines. Visit us today or take a tour.
