The Orchard Project

The Orchard Project is a development laboratory that has been a driving force in generating innovative work within the dramatic arts for over 16 years. Since its establishment in 2008, The Orchard Project has expanded and now supports projects in various mediums, from theater and live performance to television and audio storytelling. Through annual lab programs, The Orchard Project provides artists with the resources needed to bring their work to the next step in its development. The Performance Lab, which takes place in Saratoga Springs each summer, serves as an opportunity for creatives to develop new work among a cohort of fellow artists, with opportunities to share work and receive feedback in a supportive environment. The Episodic and Audio Labs, which take place remotely, allow artists from all over the US and beyond to hone their pilot and podcast scripts, while the year-long Greenhouse Lab provides ongoing support to artists looking to generate new material. In just under two decades, over 1550+ artists and 430+ projects have been supported by The Orchard Project. Notable productions developed at The Orchard Project over the years include An Octoroon (Branden Jacobs-Jenkins), All the Way (Robert Schenkkan), The Park (Amy Jephta), and 33 Variations (Tectonic Theatre Project). Our shows have garnered acclaim, from TONY and Obie awards to productions on television and the big screen. The artists in our extended community are pushing the field of performance forward each and every day. Through residencies, developmental productions and other support activities, we take risks where no one else is willing to.
