The Peoples Improv Theater began in 2002 in New York and expanded to North Carolina in 2017 with the opening of PIT Chapel Hill. Founder Ali Reza Farahnakian graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and is a North Carolina native, having grown up in the Winston-Salem area. Farahnakian began his comedy career at Second City and Improv Olympic in Chicago before moving to New York to work at Saturday Night Live.
PIT Chapel was recently voted Best Performing Arts Venue by the readers of Chapel Hill magazine in 2018. The newly renovated location at 462 W Franklin offers classes, workshop intensives, nightly shows, open mics as well as corporate workshops and space rentals.
