About The Renaissance Collaborative, Inc.
Our Mission: To promote self-sufficiency through an innovative and comprehensive network of supportive housing, employment, and educational services. The Renaissance Collaborative (TRC) is a community-based social impact organization that has provided affordable housing, workforce development, employment, and educational services and solutions to Bronzeville and its adjacent communities for the past 27 years. To date, TRC has secured employment for approximately 1,200 low-income residents, developed and provided housing for over 400 homeless residents, provided affordable housing for over 120 low-income senior residents, and conducted outreach to over 10,000 residents in low-income communities in many ways, including support groups for seniors and the recovery communities as well as health and employment resource fairs. Since its inception in 1992, TRC has always put the interests of the people it serves first. Our value statement is: "All individuals have value and they can better contribute to themselves, their families and their communities when provided the support they need." With this value statement guiding all of its decisions, TRC has gained a reputation for excellence in developing creative supportive housing and employment solutions that renew people and build healthier communities. The Renaissance Collaborative began as a way to save the Historic Wabash YMCA from demolition. In 1992, Patricia Abrams, together with the help of Quinn Chapel AME, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, and the Apostolic Faith Church, came together to save this historic landmark which had been the hub of Black civic and social activity in the early 1900s. Now, the historic building houses The Renaissance Apartments and Fitness for Life Center, helping people improve and rebuild their lives with comprehensive supportive services that have enabled its residents to regain their place in their families and communities.
