The Student Dollar (www.thestudentdollar.com) is a non-for-profit Empowering Women and Minorities towards financial education and student debt reduction. There are more than 44 million borrowers who collectively owe $1.5 trillion in student loan debt. The average student in the Class of 2016 has $37,172 in student loan debt. The average student in the Class of 2017 has almost $40,000 in student loan debt. American women hold two-thirds of all student debt, and Minorities/low-income students are more likely to take out debt and take out larger amounts of debt, according to a report by Demos.
