The Upcycle

PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) or simply put, plastic, is the biggest pollutant in the marine ecosystem today. In fact, over 60% of the marine litter is plastic based. This is where my company, The Upcycle, comes in. It takes steps to make a difference in protecting the marine wildlife by reducing the amount of plastic that reaches the ocean. The Upcycle makes laptop sleeves from completely upcycled linen and PET bottles. The sleeves are made of pre-consumer waste fabric and padded with the fibers of PET bottles. By reusing waste fabric we make a tiny change to the amount of fabric that reaches landfills and becomes toxic over time. The profits made by Upcycle is used to sponsor the education of underpriviledged girls. I also wanted to close the loop so donated to NGOS the work for the welfare of rag pickers.
