The Usual Place is a not-for-profit social enterprise which operates as a community cafe in the heart of Dumfries. Our unique skills academy, provides life-changing opportunities to young people with additional support needs including training, education and employability skills in a real-world work environment in our busy cafe and events space. Many of the young people who have thrived through our programmes would previously have been invisible, excluded, at risk of isolation and loneliness, and importantly, unable to fulfil their potential as valuable, active citizens contributing positively to their communities. We offer schools programmes, work experience and SVQs in Professional Cookery, Hospitality Services, Retail Services and Facilities Skills and focus on promoting the innate talents and capabilities of young people, enabling and empowering them to flourish and challenging stereotypes.
