The Ballet Society

The Australian Ballet is a leader in Australia's arts and cultural landscape. Since its inception in 1962, it has become one of the world’s greatest ballet companies. Much of this success has been driven by the major support organisations: · The Australian Ballet Society, Victoria · The Friends of The Australian Ballet (NSW), and · The Friends of The Australian Ballet (SA). In 2022 these three organisations adopted the national name ‘The Ballet Society’. These groups initiated and drove the first, and at the time, only philanthropic and outreach activities of the company. They flourished to become the most successful and far-reaching of any performing arts organisation in Australasia. Each of the states is supported by and is part of an extended ballet family. This has allowed us to work closely with the Company and connect them to our supporters including subscribers, patrons, donors, and sponsors. There is a long history associated with each group. For example, The Australian Ballet Society, Victoria officially began supporting both organisations in February 1966. Friends of The Australian Ballet (NSW) has been a proud supporter since 1973. The Australian Ballet Forum in South Australia commenced support in 1992, and in 1997 adopted the name Friends of The Australian Ballet (S.A.) Inc. We look forward to continuing this journey as we support each other and work closely with The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School to build a community of ballet lovers.
