I founded The Data Ally to help professionals and organisations adopt a fresh and justice-informed mindset that improves how they collect, process and strategically engage with data for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
I have seen first-hand how organisations have failed marginalised communities in how they use and misinterpret EDI data - from harmful data categorisations to statistical analysis and data storytelling that perpetuates the very oppressive narratives they seek to dismantle. These were not one-off errors. They were frequent, widespread and deep-rooted inaccuracies stemming from misinformation, bias, cognitive dissonance and analysis without context. It was a mindset issue. And you can't "fix" a mindset through meetings.
These experiences motivated me to crackdown existing harmful approaches and offer a mindset that is designed to protect marginalised communities and deliver social justice.
