Dawdle is a science-backed app designed to help people overcome state procrastination—the kind that shows up when you know what you need to do, but can’t bring yourself to start. Unlike habit-focused productivity apps that aim to transform long-term behavior, Dawdle is built for the moment you're stuck. Drawing from research in psychology, neuroscience, and motivation science, it offers brief, low-effort interventions that shift the mental cost-benefit analysis we make when deciding whether to do something now or later. Instead of overwhelming users with rigid systems or streaks, Dawdle guides you through a few quick steps: breaking down a task into bite-sized subtasks, identifying what’s making you avoid it, visualizing the outcome, choosing a small incentive for completing it, and setting a focused timer paired with encouraging quotes. After completing each subtask, users receive positive feedback to reinforce their effort and build momentum. The goal is to make task initiation feel more manageable, meaningful, and emotionally doable. Dawdle is grounded in the Temporal Decision Model and other well-established theories of procrastination, motivation, and affect regulation. It was developed by a PhD candidate in cognitive neuroscience, who translated findings from lab studies into a digital tool that supports users when they need it most. The app has been tested in research studies and designed with real-time usability in mind—ideal for students, professionals, and anyone who struggles to get started on important tasks. Currently in beta and preparing for public launch, Dawdle aims to become the go-to tool for beating delay without shame, pressure, or productivity hype.
