TheDebateDaily was established to offer an alternative format to traditional media coverage of political, economic and social issues. Social media algorithms are creating echo chambers, where people are often only shown viewpoints that match their own. News outlets that claim to be unbiased or centrist, tend to lean to the left or right in an effort to capture a larger audience, or please their owners. It is easy for us to dismiss perspectives that don’t match our own. This too contributes to a divided political and social landscape, to the rise of extremism and a lack of respect for the opinions of others. We want to reset the balance. Our writers research and summarise different positions on the big issues. Our editors address writer biases. The aim is to get us all thinking more critically about our own ideas and perspectives: to review and reconsider our opinions.
