The Edge – Trading Ugandan Treasures
Founded in 2011 by Amos and Ruth Kasigi, The Edge embodies a passion for coffee and community upliftment. After spending 15 years in the UK, they returned to Uganda to establish The Edge, now recognised for its visionary leadership and high-quality coffee production.
The Edge collaborates with over 9,000 small-scale farmers across Uganda's East, Central, and West regions. These partnerships help enhance coffee production, providing sustainable livelihoods and contributing to community development. Additionally, The Edge sources from 10 large farms committed to sustainable agricultural practices.
The company manages its own 17-hectare farm in Mbigi, Central Uganda which includes a nursery and mill. This farm is strategically positioned at an altitude of 1,200 masl, optimising the unique flavour profiles of our coffee.
Our Coffee:
➢ Robusta and Arabica Varieties: We specialise in Robusta, known for its intense aroma and flavours ranging from citrus to woody, and source high-quality Arabica from select regions.
➢ Production and Certifications: Approximately 5,000 tonnes of coffee are exported annually. Currently, 921 of our farmers are Rainforest Alliance certified, with plans to certify 3,000 more in the next two years.
➢ Flavour Profile: Our coffee typically scores between 80 to 84, featuring rich aromas and a full body with notes of caramel and nuts.
SafariSounds Initiative: Emphasising 'more trees, more birds,' SafariSounds not only enhances bird habitats but also the quality of coffee. This initiative focuses on shade-grown coffee and avoiding harmful chemicals, crucial for attracting birds back to the farms.
Our initiatives focus on youth empowerment, disability inclusion, and women’s advancement, aiming to create a ripple effect of positive change.
