The name also suggests an element of mystery and depth, indicating that I aim for unique insights and solutions that are not immediately obvious.
In essence, "The Hidden Enterprise" can be viewed as an evolution of the concept of the "Hidden Factory" originally coined by Vollmann, Berry, and Whybark in the 1980s. "The Hidden Factory" refers to inefficiencies, rework, defects, and waste that exist within an organization's operations but remain concealed or unaccounted for. It represents the additional work and resources required to rectify errors, address defects, and manage various forms of waste stemming from process inefficiencies.
In today's landscape, most manufacturing operations have reached a reasonably high level of optimization and automation. However, what continues to persist are inefficiencies that manifest elsewhere within the organization. These inefficiencies are characterized by a lack of genuine collaboration between departments, siloed business systems, a persistence of manual processes and an overreliance on spreadsheets.
