The Lichen Lab

The Lichen Lab is an incubator for laboratory sustainability technologies that can flourish and scale, just as lichen does on the surfaces of our natural world. As a member of the Green Labs movement, our work centers around helping to minimize the 5% of global carbon emissions that originate in the Life Sciences industry. We work to reduce this environmental footprint by empowering laboratory sustainability leaders with tools that amplify their impact. We’re captivated by the potential of promising, unscaled solutions that have an outsized impact on the resource efficiency of laboratories. Our flagship product, the Shut the Sash Alarm for fume hoods, is a behavioral change tool that helps labs conserve energy, improve lab safety, and save money. We like to think that our work with fume hoods is only the beginning of a journey toward a more lichen-covered, sustainable world. The Lichen Lab is a small and mighty cleantech startup and registered Public Benefit Corporation that operates out of offices in San Diego, CA. We work with global biotech and pharma companies and academic research institutions to reduce their environmental impact.
