Miami Tunnel

Welcome to the Gateway of PortMiami! Miami Tunnel is a 4,200-ft twin-bore tunnel providing a toll-free route to vibrant PortMiami while upholding the nation's highest safety standards. Built to deflect heavy traffic in downtown Miami, the tunnel reduced cargo truck traffic by nearly 80%. Today, approximately 9,000 automobiles and 4,000 trucks pass through daily. Miami Tunnel connects SR A1A/MacArthur Causeway to Dodge Island, providing direct access between the seaport and highways I-395 and I-95. In addition to the Port Bridge, Miami Tunnel creates another entry point to PortMiami, keeping our community's second-largest economic generator competitive. In 2022, PortMiami welcomed 26.5 million visitors who spent $20.8 billion exploring the amazing destination we call home! By connecting SR A1A/MacArthur Causeway to Dodge Island, the project provides direct access between the seaport and highways I-395 and I-95, create another entry to PortMiami in addition to the Port Bridge to keep PortMiami, the community’s second largest economic generator, competitive. Additionally, The POMT improves traffic flow in downtown Miami by reducing the number of cargo trucks and cruise related vehicles on congested downtown streets, and aids ongoing and future development in and around downtown Miami.
