The New College is a government-aided Autonomous institution affiliated to the University of Madras. It was established in 1951 by the Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI). The college was inaugurated by Sri. Kamaraj Nadar, the then Chief Minister of Madras on 2 July 1951.
The New College secured Autonomous status in 2007 and is recently re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A++’ Grade (CGPA 3.61 out of 4). In two shifts the College currently offers 27 Undergraduate, 14 Postgraduate and 11 Ph.D. programmes. The present student strength of the college over 6000.
